Traditions of Harmanli

Culinary tour including: traditional breakfast, 2 wine tastings and 1 culinary workshop.

Harmanli

Day 1

10:00 a.m. – Start at the “Vasil Levski 1928” community centre in the village of Balgarin with a traditional breakfast featuring farm products – ahchak made from sheep's milk, buffalo cheese and yoghurt, dried and fresh seasonal fruits, pear juice and jam, sesame bread and more, depending on the season. Advance booking required.

11:30 a.m. – We head to the village of Kolarovo for a wine tasting at Kolarovo Winery and Malkata Zvezda. The tasting takes place in the tasting room of Kolarovo Winery, overlooking the hills where the Kastra Rubra fortress is located. Advance booking required.

1:30 p.m. – Departure for Kastra Rubra Fortress. A 1.5 km one-way hike along an almost horizontal dirt road. Visit to the remains of the fortress. No entrance fee.

3:00 p.m. – Arrival at the “Archimandrite Dositey 1908” community centre in the village of Dositeево, where we are welcomed by smiling women and wonderful hosts, as well as Bratanov Winery (advance booking required). They have prepared a culinary workshop for us, where we will bake the traditional kartalacheta pastries of the village and enjoy them with homemade cheese, jam and delicacies. All of this will be accompanied by the delicious wines of Bratanov Winery, specially selected to pair with the other temptations on the table. This tasting marks the end of your phenomenal culinary and wine feast in the Harmanli area.

5:00 p.m. – End of programme.

Accents

The programme can only be carried out with advance reservation and a minimum of 6 participants. Participation in the attractions described in the route is paid! The strain on your stomach will be intense.

Wineries included in the route: Malkata Zvezda, Kolarovo, Bratanov – members of the “Wines of Sakar” winemakers' association.

For the short visit to Kastra Rubra Fortress, especially during the warm season, it is mandatory to bring a hat and 1 litre of water with you.
