Bratanov Winery is a small family winery from Sakar and an active member of the Wines of Sakar association, combining authentic winemaking with a clear commitment to nature conservation. Its own vineyards include classic varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Viognier, as well as local varieties such as Tamyanka, Rubin, Mavrud and Gamza.
A favourite among wine lovers is the young Merlot from Shishmanovo, which in 2013 won acclaim not only for its excellent taste but also for the cause behind it. The Bratanov family chose to support the conservation initiatives of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, particularly efforts to protect the Eastern Imperial Eagle population in Sakar, by donating part of the proceeds from the young Merlot, featuring the emblematic Eastern Imperial Eagle on its label. In 2024, the tradition continued with a second bottle – Syrah featuring another bird, the Western Bonelli's Warbler, as part of the Birds of Sakar line, which pays tribute to the region's rich biodiversity and the connection between wine, the land and wildlife.
