General guidelines:
A two-way hiking route with the starting and finishing point in Oreshnik Village. Ideal for a full-day walk in the nature of Sakar. The terrain is open at the beginning, then enters a forest and climbs up to the Black Rocks. It returns along the same route.
Description:
Head southwest, where, after leaving the village, you will find the cemetery spring, decorated with nature motifs. The trail runs through open terrain and gradually climbs for about 2 km. At 2.3 km, at an altitude of 330 m, it enters a deciduous forest. A steeper climb follows to an altitude of 480 m, where the Black Rocks are located. They form a prominent rocky complex rising above the surrounding landscape and offering panoramic views.
The place is amazingly beautiful, as are the rocks themselves, which resemble rocky pinnacles driven into the ground by some giant. It is suitable for a picnic. There is no shelter or other resting facility. Wild nature – forest, rocks and sky. In spring, you will hear countless birdsong, including Nightingale, Stonechat, Ortolan bunting, Common whitethroat, Bee-eater and others. Among the birds of prey, look out for the Eastern Imperial Eagle, an emblematic species of Sakar, as well as the Eurasian Hobby and Lesser Spotted Eagle.
From the Black Rocks, the route returns to Oreshnik Village. The way down is easier. The good thing is that the outward journey is uphill and the return journey is downhill. This makes the route all the more enjoyable.
Accents
The route passes by the painted cemetery spring and the chapel of St Prophet Elijah. Make sure you have
enough water, especially during the warm season. There are no springs along the route.
It is suitable for physically active people. It is recommended to wear shoes with thick treads and carry a backpack with food and water for the day, a hat and a small first-aid kit. Hiking poles are also recommended. As a
general rule for all routes in Southeastern Bulgaria, if there is an electric fence across the trail, there will be a gate left open for passage. Look for it and do not forget to close it behind you. Animals in this area are often kept outdoors, and the electric fence keeps them within the designated grazing area.
