Velko Kanev International Theatre Festival

The Velko Kanev Festival dates back to 1997 and has been held annually in September in Topolovgrad. For one week, the town of the Imperial Eagle lives with theatre at its heart. The event is living proof of the unifying power of performing arts – at the end of September, Topolovgrad brings together amateur theatre groups from Bulgaria and abroad, with a focus on comedy, satire and pantomime. Over the years, groups from Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, Türkiye and Serbia have taken part in the festival, with all performances presented in Bulgarian.
