A national folklore festival dedicated to traditional culture – one of the hallmarks of Dositeevo village, Harmanli Municipality. The two-day event combines the traditions of sesame cultivation with rich folklore and culinary delights.
The festival features authentic dances, songs and fragrant sesame specialities. The festival days are filled with the aroma of freshly baked kartalacheta, banitsa and sweet sesame pastries, symbols of the long-preserved sesame-growing traditions of the Harmanli region.
Program
The folklore programme is a competition in
which bagpipe ensembles and folklore groups from all over Bulgaria take part, presenting their respective regions through their performances. The programme is competitive in nature.
At the first Sesame Festival in Dositeevo village in 2016, only 12 groups took part, mostly from the Sakar region. In 2025, the number of participants exceeded 400, coming from all over the country.
