Every year on the first Saturday of March, the Kukeri – Babusheri celebration takes place in Mezek village.
Local masquerade groups put on masks and costumes to drive away evil forces and bring health and prosperity. During the celebration, nature is symbolically awakened through traditional rituals and Babusheri rites.
The programme also includes a folklore concert by the amateur groups at Izgrev-1921 Community Centre in Mezek village, art workshops and activities for children, and stalls featuring products from local producers.
