Yerusalimovo village

Destination Lyubimets

Yerusalimovo is known as the spiritual centre of Lyubimets Municipality. It is also the only settlement in Europe named after the city of Jerusalem. In the earliest records dating from the Ottoman period, the village appears under the name Hadzhikoy, as many local people made pilgrimages to Jerusalem.

The oldest church in Lyubimets Municipality, dating back to 1818, is located in Yerusalimovo village. Although it has been looted several times over the years, it was always quickly restored through donations from local residents and has never been closed. In 2000, a 5-metre cross was erected on one of the hills above Yerusalimovo, offering magnificent views of the Sakar Mountains.
