Pelevun village

Pelevun is a village in the Eastern Rhodopes, within Ivaylovgrad Municipality, 15 km from the Greek border. The village has preserved its traditional architecture, with stone walls and stone-roofed houses. It has a local shop, a traditional tavern and the Kaloyanovite Kashti guest house. The spacious village square is home to the monument of Captain Petko Voyvoda. The St Panteleimon Church, the ethnographic collection and the community centre are also located on the square.

The village is inhabited by descendants of the Bulgarians from Asia Minor, who gather every August with relatives and friends for the traditional village fair. The church, built in 1843 in the Greek architectural style, is a remarkable landmark preserving the memory of the region. One of the village's most distinctive events is the Trahana Festival, celebrating the traditional local food trahana.

The nearest peak is Barchinkata, officially known as St Elijah Peak, rising to 505 metres. It offers beautiful views over the village and as far as the Greek part of the Eastern Rhodopes.
