Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds

The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) is the oldest and largest nature conservation non-governmental organisation in Bulgaria, founded in 1988. BSPB works actively on projects to restore populations of globally threatened species such as the Egyptian vulture, red-breasted goose, Eastern imperial eagle, and black vulture. The organisation also carries out systematic monitoring of common bird species to assess the condition of ecosystems. It manages nature conservation centres, including Poda Nature Conservation Centre near Burgas and the Eastern Rhodopes Nature Conservation Centre near Madzharovo. Well-known initiatives such as We Count Sparrows and the children's educational programme Eco Adventurers encourage public engagement in nature conservation.
