The Painted Rock is a magnificent, easily accessible place and a must-see destination. If you want panoramic views, mountains and nature all in one, this is the place. It consists of a group of granite rocks rising above the surrounding landscape, surrounded by a sea of deciduous vegetation and rounded ridges. The name comes from the memorial plaque placed on the largest rock in honour of the builders of the Topolovgrad–Visegrad road in 1936–1938.
It is believed that the Painted Rock, together with other prominent rock formations in the same mountain massif, was a site of cult activity during the Thracian era.
It is located at 550 m above sea level, beside the road to Visegrad from the Topolovgrad side. The view extends towards the Visegrad massif and the eastern part of the Sakar Mountains.
