Neutzikon Fortress

A Medieval Byzantine Fortification in the Svilengrad Area

Located west and above the village of Mezek, it can be reached by a good asphalt road. There is a parking area. At the entrance to the fortress is the attraction area with a ticket and souvenir centre, as well as an avenue with knights and horses, where episodes from the Middle Ages are recreated. The fortress itself was built on a hill 210 m above Mezek and offers beautiful views of the valley. Its construction dates back to the 11th century and it was actively used until the 14th century, when Bulgaria fell under Ottoman rule. A guide is available to tell you about its history. An easily accessible site, suitable for children.
