Karakolyova Dupka is a small cave formed in the rocks above Ustrem Monastery. It is also known as the Old Church. It was used as a rock church in the 10th century, and it is believed that the foundations of Ustrem Monastery were first laid there. A stone slab depicting a Thracian ruler was found in the cave, forming the basis for the hypothesis that it was also used as a sanctuary in ancient times. A beautiful view of the Sakar Mountains opens up from above.
The cave can be reached by a trail that is steep in places and slippery in wet weather. There are no markings or safety structures, so care must be taken when climbing.
