SUMMARY:National Thracian Gathering and Commemoration
DESCRIPTION:Every year on the last Saturday of September\, the Union of Thracian Associations in Bulgaria and Madzharovo Municipality organise a commemorative event in memory of the tragic events near the former village of Yatadzhik\, now Madzharovo. The event brings together descendants of the Thracian refugees from Western Thrace who\, in 1913\, after enduring unimaginable suffering and torture and at the cost of many lives\, including women and children\, managed to reach and settle in Madzharovo. Through this gathering\, their descendants\, as well as all residents and visitors of Madzharovo\, remember the experiences of their ancestors and honour their memory. In addition to the memorial service\, traditional sacrificial food is distributed\, traditional Bulgarian dances are performed\, traditional crafts are presented and more.
