The Dzhamali are men dressed in sheepskin costumes adorned with bells around their waists\, whose ringing is meant to frighten away evil forces. In Oreshnik village\, Topolovgrad Municipality\, the Dzhamali set out early in the morning on 1 January and go from house to house\, driving away everything bad and making way for good fortune. The custom is pagan in origin and was brought to Oreshnik by refugees who settled there at the beginning of the 20th century. Ever since\, the New Year in the village has begun with the Dzhamali\, who are eagerly awaited and warmly welcomed in every Oreshnik home. The custom ends with a horo dance in the village square\, where residents and visitors of Oreshnik gather to wish one another health and prosperity before taking the festive spirit back home.\n\nThe custom ends with a horo dance in the village square\, where residents and visitors of Oreshnik gather to wish one another health and prosperity before taking the festive spirit back home.
