SUMMARY:Among the Dolmens of Sakar: MTB Open
DESCRIPTION:At the beginning of April\, we will open the new cycling season with a different kind of adventure in the mystical and little-known Sakar Mountains. The cycling event takes place in the area around Hlyabovo\, Sakarci and Oreshnik villages and Topolovgrad. Difficulty level: The routes are not suitable for complete beginners. Experience in mountain biking and a good level of physical fitness are recommended. The event will take place with a minimum of 6 participants\, with a maximum group size of 18 participants.\n\nDay 1 We begin our Sakar adventure from Hlyabovo village\, setting off along gentle spring roads to experience the rhythm of the mountains and immerse ourselves in their unique energy. We cycle through Mangara locality and past the Avdzhika\, Mangara and Slavova Koriya dolmens – silent witnesses to Thracian heritage. Here\, history is not confined to a museum but is part of the landscape\, woven into the hills\, oak forests and fragrant grasses. The route for the day is 22 km\, with +530/-530 m elevation gain/loss. Day 2 After breakfast and morning coffee\, we head to Topolovgrad\, where the second day’s cycling begins. At the very start\, the route takes us to Paleokastro – a place that first welcomes the sunrise and is dotted with numerous remains of Thracian ritual activity. We continue through the area around Sakarci village and the Zhelyov Gyol and Kapakliyka localities\, where the mountains reveal their quietest and most authentic side. Along the way\, we reach Pisani Kamak\, Bakalov Kladenets and other megalithic sites. The day is filled with panoramic views and the freshness of spring. Here\, Sakar is spacious and sunny\, with oak forests\, rounded ridges and rich biodiversity that reveals its full beauty in spring. The route for the day is 33 km\, with +720/-720 m elevation gain/loss.
